Kantar Worldpanel ComTech claims that in the 12 weeks ending October 2, 2011, iOS market share in the UK was 18.5 percent, whereas Android was more than two-and-a-half times that -- 49.9 percent of all new smartphone sales. Samsung Electronics passed Apple to become the world's largest smartphone maker in the third quarter. According to estimates from IHS iSuppli, Samsung shipped 27.3 million smartphones in the third quarter, up 43.7 percent from the second quarter.
